The Arabic-language channel Al Jazeera reported that French fighter jets are preparing to make a temporary stop in Chad for training purposes. The channel said the planned stop is part of a new defence rapprochement between France and Chad. According to Al Jazeera, this rapprochement follows the termination of the previous defence agreement between the two countries. The channel added that the return of French fighter jets to Chad will take place under new terms agreed between the two countries. The details of these terms have not yet emerged, nor the number of jets, their arrival date or how long they will stay, nor the location of the stop or the nature of the training. It is also not yet clear whether the two governments have issued an official confirmation.
