Education and Higher Education Minister Rima Karami met directors of educational institutions and teaching bodies at the Rashid Karami International Fair in Tripoli, according to Tayyar.org. She said the aim of the meeting was to explain the ministry's work and listen directly to the demands of educators.
On the school funds file, Karami said she had been informed that the procedures related to it had been completed. According to the website, she described the file as having “come to an end.” She added that “imminent relief” is now expected. It is not yet clear when the funds will be disbursed or in what amounts.
On external support, Karami announced that the ministry had secured additional funding from the European Union to address the repercussions of the war and displacement. She said the support would also meet the needs of areas that were not directly affected. She expressed hope that educational projects would be carried out in the north starting in 2027. Her remarks, as reported, do not yet specify the value of this support or the specific projects.
On the Lebanese University file, Karami stressed her commitment to implementing Cabinet decisions on the full-time appointment of professors. She said she would complete the procedures to present the file at the first regular Cabinet session. No date has yet been set for that session.
Karami began her tour of Tripoli with a visit to the Governor of North Lebanon at the Grand Serail. She then met Archbishop Efrem Kriyakos and visited Archbishop Youssef Soueif. She also held a meeting with the Civil Movement Gathering, educators and heads of associations. The tour ended with a meeting with the Mufti of Tripoli and the North, Sheikh Mohammad Imam, where educational matters and public affairs were discussed.
