Iranians set fire to a giant poster showing Donald Trump, JD Vance, Steve Witkoff and Benjamin Netanyahu at a rally in Enghelab square in central Tehran, Naharnet reported. The poster burning took place after Trump's Republican Party suffered heavy losses in the U.S. midterm elections, in which the Democrats took control of Congress, according to the report.
The crowd waved red flags demanding revenge for the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, Naharnet reported. Some of the flags carried the slogan "We will kill Trump". A song mourning Khamenei played from speakers during the rally.
Earlier the same day, thousands of Iranians mocked Trump at the annual rally marking the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover and hostage crisis, according to Naharnet.
The report says attacks launched by Trump and Netanyahu on 28 February killed supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei and others and set off the wider Middle East war.
Naharnet also reported that Trump acknowledged that the war he launched with Israel against Iran in February was a key factor in the electoral defeat.
Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei called the Republican loss a "political defeat" for Trump, according to Naharnet. Rezaei said Tehran had "handed Trump a strategic defeat on the battlefield and in the Hormuz". Those statements are Rezaei's own claims, as relayed in the Naharnet report.
The account of the Enghelab square rally, the earlier embassy anniversary rally and the reactions to the election rests on a single report by Naharnet's Middle East desk.
